Meet Fiona!

Our own dog, Fiona is a spirited rescue that’s a mix of Australian cattle dog and other breeds.

She is probably one of the most photographed pups around!

She accompanies us on endless adventures, from kayaking trips in Wisconsin to daily walks around Hyde Park. She loves splashing around in the water, always bringing sticks herding us at every turn.

THE PROCESS

1. Fill out an info form

Fill out a contact form. Let’s get to know each other! Tell me about your pet(s) and photo needs. If you have a specific vision in mind, let me know and I can create a bespoke session.

2. Chat on a call

Schedule a phone consultation - Let’s get to know each other! Tell me a little more about your pet(s) and the vision you have in mind. The more I know the better I can capture your unique session.

3. Fun photo session

Enjoy creative fun with your pet at a location that fits their personality and yours. Sessions are sometimes a little crazy at the start. Do not stress about an over active pup or pups. The goal is always safe, fun and memorable images with as little stress as possible. If your pup needs time to settle, that is very normal.

4. Enjoy the memories

In a few days you will get an online gallery with your images. From this gallery you can download all the edited images in high resolution. You can also order prints, wall art canvas prints and more from the comfort of your own home.

Frequently Asked Questions

My pet is young and does not even know how to sit. Can you still photograph them?

No worries at all. Most pups will respond to treats and after a little patience can be shepherded into place in the studio or photographed more candidly outdoors.

For pets lacking exceptionally good recall, leashes on is always best outdoors and thanks to modern editing tools they can often be removed with no trace of editing.

Can my reactive, shy, or anxious pet still have a photoshoot?

Definitely! Some dogs will need a little more time to adapt to a new space and a new person. I am more concerned with a safe and fun session than a perfect session.

One reason I like to chat before a session is to make sure we plan for success and plan the type of session that will suit your dog or pet. I have found cats especially are shy and better photographed in their home doing what ever they want to do haha. But some will adjust to the studio.

My Pet is very high energy how would you photograph them?

I love active pets! For very active pets an outdoor session at a local park often works well. My favorite place for active pets who love the water is at the Montrose Dog Park. (you will need tags to go here)

Studio sessions can also work, we just use more treats and time haha.

Do you photograph pets besides dogs?

Yes! Despite the catchy name, cats and other pets are welcome.

Can we be in some photos with our pet?

Yes, it is always fun to have a mix of pets with and without their people.

How long does it take to see our edited photos?

Most of the time it is about two days after the session that you will get a link to your edited images.

During late summer and fall when it is very busy it may take three to four days at most.

Chicago Pet Photographer With Unique Experience

Chicago Pet Photographer

Hello! I’m Shane, your dedicated Chicago pet photographer.

I’m thrilled at the chance to capture the unique spirit of your furry companions!

Photography was a hobby that turned into a full time profession almost three decades ago.

Growing up in Zimbabwe, I was immersed in a world of animals. My first puppy, a lovable dachshund named Gretchen, ignited my lifelong passion for pets. I also shared my home with a drool-happy bulldog named Major who had endless energy .

My fondness for bulldogs and dachshunds remains strong to this day!

Whenever I visited family on their farms, I was greeted by a lively pack of dogs and numerous cats, each playing a vital role in keeping the wild animals and any mice at bay. My adventures with wildlife, photographing lions, leopards, elephants and more turned my hobby into a profession when I started working with a lion conservation project as a photographer. I was honored to contribute to lion conservation. My days were spent walking alongside these magnificent creatures, snapping photos for research and marketing for eco tourism.

I also worked for luxury tourist resorts looking to capture the beauty of their surroundings in Africa’s amazing bush camps.

(I did have an unfortunate encounter with a leopards’ appetite for my first digital camera, but at least I recovered the memory card!)

After shooting a friend’s wedding way back in 2000 I discovered a new passion and added weddings to my repertoire.

In 2006 I moved to the United States. I am very thankful to be here.

Once in the USA I transitioned my photography focus, embracing weddings and family events while continuing to indulge my love for wildlife through various hobbies, like photographing eagles and Pelicans.

More recently I became increasingly busy capturing dogs, cats, and other beloved animal companions. This lead me to open Woofography as a separate pet focused business.

Shane Lawrence Photography remains my wedding and portrait brand.

The years of experience capturing wildlife in Africa set me apart as a Chicago pet photographer.

This rich tapestry of experiences and deep love for animals positively affect every shoot.

Capturing the energy of a playful pup excites me just as much as photographing soaring eagles or encountering elephants up close. (That memory comes with a bit of a scary story! For huge creatures they are incredibly quiet.)

I can’t wait to connect with you and your furry friends to create unforgettable memories together!

I would love to be your go to Chicago Pet Photographer.
